Bracken County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Brooksville , named after David Brooks , an American statesman.

The county is located in northeast Kentucky, bordering the state of Ohio , from which it is separated by the Ohio River , and has an area of ​​541 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water. In Kentucky, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Mason County , Robertson County , Harrison County, and Pendleton County .

history

Bracken County was formed on December 14, 1796 from parts of Campbell County and Mason County. It was named after Big Bracken Creek and Little Bracken Creek , which are in the area and named after William Bracken by the Indians .

According to the 2000 census , Bracken County had 8,279 people in 3,228 households and 2,346 families. The population density was 16 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.48 percent white, 0.62 percent African American, 0.25 percent Native American, 0.06 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.21 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.35 percent were descended from two or more races.
