Trimble County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Bedford . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northern Kentucky, borders the state of Indiana to the north and northwest , separated by the Ohio River and has an area of 405 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Carroll County , Henry County, and Oldham Counties .

history

Trimble County was formed on February 9, 1837 from parts of Gallatin County, Henry County, and Oldham County. It was named after Robert Trimble , a judge.

Demographic data

According to the 2000 census , Trimble County had 8,125 people in 3,137 households and 2,296 families. The population density was 21 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.90 percent white, 0.30 percent African American, 0.37 percent Native American, 0.07 percent Asian and 0.68 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.69 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.37 percent of the population.

Of the 3,137 households, 35.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.6 percent were married couples living together, 8.5 percent were single mothers, 26.8 percent were non-families, 22.0 percent were single households and 9.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.00 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 7.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 11.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were statistically 94.8 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 36,192 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,925. Males had a median income of $ 30,500 versus $ 21,656 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,354. 10.0 percent of families and 13.6 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 14.7 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 16.8 percent were people over 65 years of age.
