Lyon County was formed on January 14, 1854 from parts of Caldwell County. It was named after Chittenden Lyon , a son of the early settler Matthew Lyon.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census , there were 8,314 people in 3,272 households in Lyon County. The population density was 14.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.02 people lived in each of the 3272 households.
