Trigg County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Cadiz . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in southwest Kentucky, borders the state of Tennessee to the south and has an area of 1246 square kilometers, of which 98 square kilometers are water. In Kentucky, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lyon County , Caldwell County , Christian County , Calloway County, and Marshall County .
history
Trigg County was formed on January 27, 1820 from parts of Caldwell County and Christian County. It was named after Colonel Stephen Trigg , a pioneer in the area.
Eight structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of October 21, 2017).

Trigg County's population was 12,597 as of the 2000 census . 111 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 5,215 households and 3,765 families. The population density was 11 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.34 percent white, 9.79 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.18 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.22 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.90 percent of the population.
Of the 5,215 households, 29.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.2 percent were married couples living together, 8.4 percent were single mothers, 27.8 percent were non-families, 25.0 percent were single households, and 11.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.84 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.9 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 6.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 16.6 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 96.9 males. For every 100 women 18 years of age or older there were statistically 94.1 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,002 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,886. Males had a median income of $ 31,158 versus $ 22,081 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,184. 8.8 percent of families and 12.3 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 13.2 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 14.7 percent were people over 65 years of age.
