Oldham County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is La Grange . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northern Kentucky, bordering the state of Indiana in the northwest , separated by the Ohio River and has an area of ​​509 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Trimble County , Henry County , Shelby County, and Jefferson County .

history

Oldham County was formed on December 15, 1823 from parts of Henry County, Jefferson County, and Shelby County. It was named after Colonel Williamson Simpson Oldham , who was killed in Indian fighting.

According to the 2000 census , Oldham County had 46,178 people in 14,856 households and 12,196 families. The population density was 94 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.62 percent white, 4.21 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.44 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.55 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.97 percent were descended from two or more races.
