Owen County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Owenton . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northern Kentucky, is about 6 miles to the northwest from Indiana , and has an area of 917 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Carroll County , Gallatin County , Grant County , Scott County , Franklin County, and Henry County .
history
Owen County was formed on February 6, 1819 from parts of Franklin County, Gallatin County and Scott County. It was named after Colonel Abraham Owen , who died at the Battle of Tippecanoe .

According to the 2000 census , Owen County had 10,547 people. Of these, 110 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 4,086 households and 2,995 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.03 percent white, 1.13 percent African American, 0.27 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.46 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.85 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.00 percent of the population.
Of the 4,086 households, 33.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.7 percent were married couples living together, 8.0 percent were single mothers, 26.7 percent were non-families, 23.1 percent were single households and 10.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.00.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.5 percent of residents under 18, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 97.8 men.
The median income for a household in the 33,310 US dollars , and the median income for a family was 38,844 USD. Males had a median income of $ 29,329 versus $ 21,426 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,521. 12.1 percent of families and 15.5 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 17.1 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 19.9 percent were people over 65 years of age.
