Cumberland County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Burkesville , named after Samuel Burks , an early settler in the area. The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in southern Kentucky, borders the state of Tennessee to the south and has an area of ​​805 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water. Cumberland County was formed on December 14, 1796 from parts of Green County. It was named after the Cumberland River .

As of the 2000 census , Cumberland County had 7,147 people in 2,976 households and 2,038 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer.
