Fleming County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Flemingsburg . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northeast Kentucky, about 30 km north of Ohio and has an area of 910 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Mason County , Lewis County , Rowan County , Bath County , Nicholas County, and Robertson County .
history
Fleming County was formed on February 10, 1798 from parts of Mason County. It was named after Colonel John Fleming , an early settler in the area.

According to the 2000 census , Fleming County's population was 13,792 people in 5,367 households and 3,966 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.33 percent white, 1.41 percent African American, 0.14 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian and 0.28 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.67 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.75 percent of the population.
Of the 5,367 households, 34.8 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together, 9.6 percent were single mothers, 26.1 percent were non-families, 23.3 percent were single households, and 11.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.99 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 13.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 96.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 93.2 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 27,990 , and the median income for a family is $ 33,300. Males had a median income of $ 26,463 versus $ 19,895 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,214. 14.8 percent of families and 18.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 24.9 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 20.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
