Taylor County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Campbellsville , named after the founder Andrew Campbell . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is roughly on the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 718 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Marion County , Casey County , Adair County , Green County, and LaRue Counties .
history
Taylor County was formed on January 13, 1848 from parts of Green County. It was named after President Zachary Taylor .

As of the 2000 census , Taylor County had 22,927 people in 9,233 households and 6,555 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.62 percent white, 5.06 percent African American, 0.10 percent Native American, 0.18 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.32 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.70 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.82 percent of the population.
Of the 9,233 households, 30.9 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 56.4 percent were married couples living together, 11.5 percent were single mothers, 29.0 percent were non-families, 26.0 percent were single households and 12.2 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.89 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 10.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 24.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.2 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 88.7 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 28,089 , and the median income for a family was $ 33,854. Males had a median income of $ 26,633 versus $ 20,480 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,162. 14.2 percent of families and 17.5 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 23.7 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 18.3 percent were people over 65 years of age.
