Lincoln County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Stanford . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county just east of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 871 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Boyle County , Garrard County , Rockcastle County , Pulaski County, and Casey Counties .
history
Lincoln County was formed on May 1, 1780 as the original county from the Virginia Territory. It was named after Benjamin Lincoln , a general in the American Revolutionary War .

Lincoln County had a population of 23,361 people as of the 2000 census . Of these, 241 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 9,206 households and 6,729 families. The population density was 27 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.12 percent white, 2.53 percent African American, 0.15 percent Native American, 0.10 percent Asian and 0.38 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.72 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.89 percent of the population.
Of the 9,206 households, 33.7 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 58.6 percent were married couples living together, 10.3 percent were single mothers, 26.9 percent were non-families, 23.6 percent were single households and 10.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.95.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.7 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 13.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 women 18 years of age or older there were statistically 94.1 men.
The median income for a household in 2010 was $ 26,542 , and the median income for a family was $ 32,284. Males had a median income of $ 26,395 versus $ 20,517 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,602. 16.4 percent of families and 21.1 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 27.1 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 22.9 percent were people over 65 years of age.
