VX 800 V-2 engine

The Suzuki VX 800 (type designation VS 51 B) is a naked bike , i.e. an undisguised motorcycle for use on roads. It was launched in 1990 by Suzuki Motor Corporation and built until 1996 . It has a double-loop tubular steel frame with an oil-dampened telescopic fork at the front (150 mm travel) and a swing arm with spring struts at the rear (119 mm travel). Characteristic of the VX 800 is the 800 cm³ V2 engine, which gives the motorcycle, with its tank shape and plastic attachments, an unmistakable line.

The VX 800 is often seen as the little sister of the Suzuki GSX 1100 G among Suzuki drivers . Despite the completely different engine conception of the two models, this relationship stems from the similar touring design, the cardan drive and, last but not least, the similar chassis dimensions.

Model history

With the VX 800, a mid-range touring bike was to be put on its wheels within a short development time and with simple means. The engine and the chassis were taken from the chopper Suzuki VS 750 Intruder, whereby the frame got some modifications. Because of the long wheelbase, the VX 800 does not have an excessively sporty driving behavior, but it is economical, durable, easy to maintain and suitable for touring.

Apart from a few small modifications, only the fuel tap, the front brake caliper and the exhaust were changed in the course of the model's history. The fuel tap got a vacuum control with corresponding additional hoses and a connection to the carburetor, the changes to the brake caliper required adapted brake pads and the exhaust system was adapted to more stringent noise regulations, which slightly reduced the performance.

equipment

There are very few model-specific accessories for the VX 800. In addition to two half-shell panels, there is also a full-shell panel on the market. There are also enough luggage and pannier rack systems from major manufacturers for a touring motorcycle. There are also various windshields, fork springs, struts, etc. and various accessories that are not model-specific. Due to its tubular steel frame and cardan drive, the VX 800 is well suited as a basis for trailer conversions, mostly based on the corresponding EML accessories.
