The Suzuki M 1800 is a cruiser motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki . It belongs to the Intruder series, which has been sold by the manufacturer Suzuki since 1986.

description

The characteristics of this model are the size of the displacement (no motorcycle from the same manufacturer has more displacement) as well as the cylinder bores, the maximum diameter of which has not been found in any production motorcycle to date. As a short-stroke engine, the two-cylinder four-stroke engine only operates with the help of four-valve technology and electronic control of the ignition frequency in an acceptable and almost cultivated smoothness in the low speed range. The slightly increased compression, which is otherwise not found in smooth-running cruisers, and the small number of cylinders put a strain on the entire drive train in combination with a cardan with high power consumption . In addition to the increased generation of vibrations, the choice fell on a torsion-resistant double loop frame, which holds the drive in its suspension. Choosing the frame using a swing arm with a central spring strut that includes the cardan drive, with the central spring strut still being located behind the drive and in front of the rear wheel, both elongates the wheelbase and creates directional stability at high speeds, which counteracts the choice of a slightly oversized rear tire.

Almost everything about this engine is duplicated. The integrated engine management system controls two different ignition properties. At a speed of 3000 min −1, the coil ignites the two spark plugs per cylinder in every second cycle, at speeds above only every fourth cycle. For this purpose, the air supply to the two injection systems is regulated with four throttle valves , with two per unit installed one behind the other regulating the fresh air supply. From a speed of 5000 min −1 the first flap is already fully opened and only the second actively controls the air supply. From this speed onwards, this creates the so-called hypercharger effect. Below this speed, the lower air flow leads to higher torques at the end of the drive train. Sun is at a speed of 3200 min -1 at already the maximum torque of 160 Nm, although it is not a powered with diesel engine. The exhaust system of this model is also controlled by the engine management and regulates the exhaust emissions in such a way that the same exhaust system pressure remains constant with different air throughputs and, as a side effect, the noise emissions remain within the standardized framework. The brake system on the front axle comes from the super sports models and, in combination with the rather sporty telescopic fork, leads to acceptable deceleration properties for the weight class created by the manufacturer in the two-wheeler segment.
