Boyle County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Danville , named after its founder Walker Daniel .

geography

The county is located just east of the geographic center of Kentucky and covers an area of ​​474 square kilometers, of which three square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Mercer County , Garrard County , Lincoln County , Casey County , Marion County, and Washington County .

history

Boyle County was formed on February 15, 1842 from parts of Lincoln County and Mercer County. It was named after John Boyle , an early judge in the area and a member of the US House of Representatives . During the Civil War , the Battle of Perryville took place here on October 8, 1862, fought between the Mississippi Confederate Army and the Ohio Army of the Union, which were victorious. A total of 7,407 men were killed in this battle.

Boyle County has three National Historic Landmarks , Jacobs Hall , Ephraim McDowell House, and Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site . A total of 96 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 6, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , Boyle County had 27,697 people in 10,574 households and 7,348 families. The population density was 59 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.77 percent white, 9.68 percent African American, 0.19 percent Native American, 0.56 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.65 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.12 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.44 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.87 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.7 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 11.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 women 18 years of age or older, there were statistically 96.0 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 35,241 , and the median income for a family is $ 42,699. Males had a median income of $ 33,411 versus $ 23,635 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,288. 9.1 percent of families and 11.9 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 15.8 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 12.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
