Grayson County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Leitchfield , named after Major David Leitch , whose widow donated the land for the city. The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located west of the geographic center of Kentucky, about 50 km to the north from Illinois , about 80 km to the south from Tennessee , and has an area of ​​1,323 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Breckinridge County , Hardin County , Hart County , Edmonson County , Butler County, and Ohio Counties .

history

Grayson County was formed on January 15, 1810 from parts of Hardin County and Ohio County. It was named after Colonel William Grayson , who supported George Washington .

According to the 2000 census , Grayson County had 24,053 people in 9,596 households and 6,966 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer.
