The Ballard County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Kentucky . In 2010 , the county had 8,249 residents and a population density of 12.7 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Wickliffe , named after Colonel Charles Wickliffe , a landowner on whose land the city was built. The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The County is located in western Kentucky and is bordered to the west separated by the Mississippi to Missouri . In the northwest, the Ohio River forms the border with Illinois . B. W. Ballard

Ballard County was formed on February 15, 1852 from parts of Hickman County and McCracken County. It was named after Bland W. Ballard , an American statesman.

On February 17, 1880, the courthouse and most of the documents were destroyed by fire.
