Morgan County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is West Liberty . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northeast Kentucky, about 45 km to the east from West Virginia , to the north about 60 km from Ohio , and has an area of 994 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Rowan County , Elliott County , Lawrence County , Johnson County , Magoffin County , Wolfe County, and Menifee Counties .
history
Morgan County was formed on December 7, 1822 from parts of Bath County and Floyd Counties. It was named after Daniel Morgan, a general in the American Revolutionary War .

Morgan County had a population of 13,948 people as of the 2000 census . 1,843 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 4,752 households and 3,568 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.59 percent white, 4.38 percent African American, 0.15 percent Native American, 0.16 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.06 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.65 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.61 percent of the population.
Of the 4,752 households, 34.8 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 62.4 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers, 24.9 percent were non-families, 22.6 percent were single households, and 10.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.4 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 10.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 32.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 11.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 123.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 128.4 men.
The median income for a household in the 21,869 USD , and the median income for a family was 26,135 USD. Males had a median income of $ 23,966 versus $ 18,463 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,657. 27.2 percent of the population and 23.5 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 33.9 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 28.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
