Marion County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Lebanon .

The county is almost centrally located in Kentucky and has an area of 898 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Washington County , Boyle County , Casey County , Taylor County , LaRue County, and Nelson County .
history
Marion County was formed on January 25, 1834 from parts of Washington County. It was named after General Francis Marion . During the American Civil War , the county was the site of three battles in 1861, 1862, and 1863.
A building in Marion County has the status of a National Historic Landmark because of its special historical significance , the Maker's Mark whiskey distillery . A total of twelve buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of October 12, 2017).

Marion County's population was 18,212 as of the 2000 census . 1,151 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 6,613 households and 4,754 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.17 percent white, 9.12 percent African American, 0.09 percent Native American, 0.43 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.35 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.82 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.79 percent of the population.
Of the 6,613 households, 35.6 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 53.8 percent were married couples living together, 13.7 percent were single mothers, 28.1 percent were non-families, 24.4 percent were single households and 10.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.06.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 9.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 21.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 12.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 102.3 males. For every 100 women 18 years of age or older, there were 101.6 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 30,387 , and the median income for a family was $ 35,648. Males had a median income of $ 27,826 versus $ 20,699 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,472. 15.8 percent of families and 18.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 21.8 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 17.9 percent were people over 65 years of age.
