Casey County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Liberty , which was founded by veterans of the American Revolutionary War . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located near the geographic center of Kentucky and covers an area of 1,154 square kilometers with no significant body of water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Boyle County , Lincoln County , Pulaski County , Russell County , Adair County , Taylor County, and Marion County .
history
Casey County was formed on November 14, 1806 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named after Colonel William Casey, an early settler.

Casey County had a population of 15,447 people as of the 2000 census . 197 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 6,260 households and 4,419 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.30 percent white, 0.33 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.06 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.31 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.66 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.28 percent of the population.
Of the 6,260 households, 31.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 56.1 percent were married couples living together, 10.8 percent were single mothers, 29.4 percent were non-families, 26.8 percent were single households, and 12.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.94.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.5 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 8.2 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.5 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 24.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 92.6 men.
The median income for a household in the 21,580 US dollars , and the median income for a family was 27,044 USD. Males had a median income of $ 22,283 versus $ 17,885 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,867. 20.7 percent of families and 25.5 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
