Scott County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Georgetown , named after President George Washington .

The county is located in north-central Kentucky and covers an area of 739 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Grant County , Harrison County , Bourbon County , Fayette County , Woodford County , Franklin County, and Owen County .
history
Scott County was explored before 1774 and formed from parts of Woodford County on June 22, 1792.
One of the first settlers was John McClelland from Pennsylvania . In 1783, Robert Johnson established the first permanent settlement at Johnson's Station.
The county was named after Charles Scott , a general, hero in the American Revolutionary War and later governor. Scott led the Kentucky Militia to the Battle of Wabash in 1791 and led them to victory in the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794 . He was considered a man with firm principles. At times he was also described as eccentric and rude. Scott had a total of seven children. He died in October 1813.
A total of 84 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of October 21, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , Scott County had 33,061 people in 12,110 households and 8,985 families. The population density was 45 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.94 percent white, 5.35 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 0.50 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.82 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.13 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.61 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,110 households, 38.5 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 58.8 percent were married couples living together, 11.5 percent were single mothers, 25.8 percent were non-families, 21.0 percent were single households and 7.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.01.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.3 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 11.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 32.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 8.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 90.7 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 47,081 , and the median income for a family is $ 54,117. Males had a median income of $ 40,604 versus $ 25,767 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,490. 7.3 percent of families and 8.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line. 11.0 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 12.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
