The Barren County is a county in the US state of Kentucky . The county seat is Glasgow , named after the city of the same name in Scotland. The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located southwest of the geographic center of Kentucky and covers an area of 1,272 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
Barren County was formed on December 20, 1796 from parts of Green County and Warren County. It was named after its treeless landscape.
It was settled mainly through land allocation to the former soldiers of the American War of Independence .
