Bath County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Owingsville , which was named after the land owner Thomas Dye Owings , who made the land available for the city. The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northeastern Kentucky and has an area of 735 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Fleming County , Rowan County , Menifee County , Montgomery County , Bourbon County, and Nicholas Counties .
history
Bath County was formed on January 15, 1811 from parts of Montgomery County. It was named after the natural springs that are abundant here. A fire destroyed the courthouse on January 15, 1811. Since most of the documents were outsourced, they were preserved.

According to the 2000 United States Census , Bath County had 11,085 people in 4,445 households and 3,195 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.87 percent white, 1.85 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.02 percent Asian and 0.40 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.66 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.80 percent of the population.
Of the 4,445 households, 32.3 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.7 percent were married couples living together, 10.3 percent were single mothers, 28.1 percent were non-families, 25.3 percent were single households, and 12.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.93.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.6 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 97.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were statistically 94.8 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 26,018 , and the median income for a family is $ 31,758. Males had a median income of $ 27,786 versus $ 20,986 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,326. 16.4 percent of families and 21.9 percent of the population are below the poverty line . Of these, 29.6 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 21.2 percent were people over 65 years of age.
