Metcalfe County is a county in the US state of Kentucky . The county seat is Edmonton , named after Edmund P. Rogers , who made the land available for the city's establishment. The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in southern Kentucky, about 35 km from the state of Tennessee and has an area of ​​754 square kilometers with no significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hart County , Green County , Adair County , Cumberland County , Monroe County, and Barren Counties .

history

Metcalfe County was formed on February 1, 1850 from parts of Adair County, Barren County, Cumberland County, Green County, and Monroe County. It was named after Thomas Metcalfe , a governor, US senator and member of the US Congress .

Four buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of October 13, 2017).

As of the 2000 census , Metcalfe County had 10,037 people in 4,016 households and 2,883 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer.
