Menifee County is a county in the US state of Kentucky . The county seat is Frenchburg , named after Judge Richard French . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northeast Kentucky and has an area of ​​534 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Bath County , Rowan County , Morgan County , Wolfe County , Powell County, and Montgomery Counties .

history

Menifee County was formed on March 10, 1869 from parts of Bath County, Montgomery County, Morgan County, Powell County and Wolfe County. It was named after Richard Hickman Menefee , a member of the US Congress .

As of the 2000 census , Menifee County had 6,556 people in 2,537 households and 1,900 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer.
