Richard French

Richard French (born June 20, 1792 in Boonesborough , Kentucky , † May 1, 1854 , Covington, Kentucky) was an American politician and member of the House of Representatives of the United States from Kentucky. He was born near Boonesborough. He enjoyed his education at French private schools. After finishing school he studied law. He was a licensed attorney in the United States in 1820, practicing in Winchester, Kentucky .

Political career

He was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1820 to 1826. In 1829 he was a District Court Judge. French was elected a supporter of Jackson in the 24th Congress of the United States of America (March 4, 1835 - March 3, 1837). He was unable to win reelection to the 25th Congress of the United States of America. His candidacy for governor of Kentucky in 1840 was also unsuccessful. As a Democrat, French was elected to the 28th Congress of the United States of America (March 4, 1843 - March 3, 1845). He was also represented in the 30th Congress of the United States of America Congress (March 4, 1847 - March 3, 1849).

After finishing his political career he practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Covington, Kentucky on May 1, 1854. He was buried in the family vault near Mount Sterling, Kentucky.
