Polk Laffoon (born October 24, 1844 in Madisonville , Kentucky , †  October 22, 1906 there ) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1889 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Polk Laffoon attended public schools in his home country. During the Civil War he was a soldier in the Confederation Army . He was captured twice. After the war he worked as a teacher for two years. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1867, he began to work in Madisonville in this profession. In the meantime, he was also a prosecutor in Hopkins County .

Laffoon was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1884 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded James Franklin Clay on March 4, 1885 . After a re-election in 1886, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1889 . From 1887 he was chairman of the Committee on Control of Expenditures of the War Ministry. In 1888 Laffoon decided not to run again. In the following years he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on October 22, 1906 in his hometown of Madisonville.
