William Singleton Young
William Singleton Young (born April 10, 1790 in Bardstown , Nelson County , Kentucky , † September 20, 1827 in Elizabethtown , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1825 and 1827 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .
Career
William Young was the older brother of Bryan Rust Young (1800-1882), who was also a member of Congress for Kentucky between 1845 and 1847. He was also an uncle of John Young Brown (1835-1904), who represented Kentucky twice in the US House of Representatives between 1859 and 1877. Young originally studied medicine. After studying law at the University of Louisville and his admission to the bar, he began working in this profession in Bloomfield . In 1814 he moved his residence and practice to Elizabethtown.
As a non-party candidate, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the Eleventh Constituency of Kentucky in the 1824 congressional election, where he succeeded Philip Thompson on March 4, 1825 . After re-election in 1826, he could remain in Congress until his death on September 20, 1827 . However, he died before the first session of the new Congress, which had existed since March 4, 1827. He was buried in Elizabethtown Cemetery.
