James Comer

James Comer (2014)

James R. Comer (born August 19, 1972 in Carthage , Smith County , Tennessee ) is an American politician . Since November 14, 2016, he has represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Comer graduated from Monroe County High School and then studied agriculture at Western Kentucky University . After that he worked as a farmer. To this day he runs the Comer Family Farms and the Comer Land and Cattle Company , which he acquired in 1994. Between 1993 and 1995 he was also President of Comer and Polston Insurance Incorporated . From 2001 to 2003 he was also President of CFB Foods Incorporated . He headed the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce in 1999 and 2000 . He has also been a director of the South Central Bank since 2000 . In his home country he is a member of numerous organizations and associations.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1993 and 1994 he was their party chairman in Monroe County. In August 1996, he attended the Republican National Convention in San Diego as a delegate . Between 2000 and 2011 he was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives ; From 2012 to 2016 he was Minister of Agriculture ( Commissioner, Department of Agriculture ) of that state. In 2015 he ran unsuccessfully in his party's primary election for the nomination for governor elections .

After the resignation of Congressman Ed Whitfield , a special election became necessary for the remainder of the term until January 2017, which was held at the same time as the regular election. In both elections Como was the first electoral district of Kentucky against the Democrats elected Sam Gaskins. He has been a member of the House of Representatives in Washington, DC since November 14, 2016 . Since he was also elected for the next legislative term, he will also be a member of the 115th Congress , which will meet on January 3, 2017 .

Comer is married. He has three children with his wife Tamara. He lives in Tompkinsville .
