Ronald E. "Ron" Lewis (born September 14, 1946 in South Shore , Greenup County , Kentucky ) is an American politician . Between 1994 and 2009 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ron Lewis attended his home public schools including McKell High School , which he graduated from in 1964. He then studied until 1969 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington . He then attended the Navy Officer Candidate School in Pensacola ( Florida ) until 1972 . A kidney infection ended a possible career in the US Navy . Lewis later studied at Morehead State University in Kentucky. At that time he was also ordained a clergyman in the Baptist Church. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . As early as 1967 he supported the election campaign of Governor Louie B. Nunn . In 1971 he ran unsuccessfully for the Kentucky House of Representatives . Before joining Congress , he also worked as a sales representative for several companies. He also worked as a teacher for five years.

After the death of longtime MP William Huston Natcher , Lewis was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Kentucky , where he took up his new mandate on May 24, 1994. After he was confirmed in the following seven regular congressional elections, he could remain in the US House of Representatives until January 3, 2009. He was a member of the Committee on Ways and Means and two sub-committees. Lewis was also a member of the Republican Policy Committee . During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . In 2008 he decided not to run again.

Ron Lewis has been married since 1966 and has two children. He lives with his family in Cecilia .
