Charles K. Wheeler

Charles Kennedy Wheeler (born April 18, 1863 in Hopkinsville , Kentucky , †  June 15, 1933 in Paducah , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1903 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Wheeler initially enjoyed a private education. He then studied until 1879 at Southwestern University in Clarksville ( Tennessee ). After studying law at the Lebanon Law School and being admitted to the bar in 1880, he began working in this profession in Paducah. Between 1894 and 1896 he was a trial lawyer for that city.

Politically, Wheeler was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1896 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded John Kerr Hendrick on March 4, 1897 . After two re-elections he was able to complete three consecutive terms in Congress by March 3, 1903 . During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell .

In 1902, Wheeler declined to run again. He withdrew from politics and practiced as a lawyer in Paducah for the decades up to his death. He died there on June 15, 1933.
