Charles F. Ogden
Charles Franklin Ogden (born February 4, 1873 in Charlestown , Clark County , Indiana , † April 10, 1933 in Louisville , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1919 and 1923 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Charles Ogden attended Jefferson High School in Indiana after elementary school . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Louisville and his admission to the bar in 1896, he began to practice in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1898 and 1899 . During the Spanish-American War he served as a volunteer in the US armed forces.
In 1901, Ogden applied unsuccessfully for the office of district attorney. The following year his candidacy for the Kentucky Senate was unsuccessful . In the 1918 congressional elections , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Democrat J. Swagar Sherley on March 4, 1919 . After re-election in 1920, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1923 . During this time the 18th and 19th amendments were ratified. It was about the Prohibition Act and the nationwide introduction of women's suffrage .
In 1922, Charles Ogden renounced another candidacy. As a result, he withdrew from politics. He died on April 10, 1933 in Louisville and was buried there.
