Thomas Jefferson "Tom" Barlow III (born August 7, 1940 in Washington, DC , † January 31, 2017 in Paducah , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1993 and 1995 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tom Barlow attended Haverford College in Pennsylvania until 1962 . He then worked, among other things, as a banker and as a commercial entrepreneur. Between 1971 and 1982 he was an environmental policy advisor to the Natural Resources Defense Council . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1986 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .

In the 1992 congressional election , Barlow was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the first constituency of Kentucky, where he succeeded Carroll Hubbard on January 3, 1993 . But since he was defeated by Republican Ed Whitfield in the following elections in 1994 , he was only able to complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1995. In 1998 and 2002 he applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress.
