Bryan Owsley

Bryan Young Owsley (born August 19, 1798 in Crab Orchard , Lincoln County , Kentucky , †  October 27, 1849 in Frankfort , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1841 and 1843 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bryan Owsley attended public schools in his home country. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. He settled in Jamestown , Russell County . In 1827 he was the clerk at the local district court. Politically, Owsley joined the Whig Party .

In the congressional elections of 1840 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Sherrod Williams on March 4, 1841 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat George Caldwell in the following elections in 1842 , he was only able to complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1843 . This period was marked by tension between President John Tyler and the Whigs. In addition, a possible annexation of the Republic of Texas , which has been independent of Mexico since 1836, was already being discussed.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Bryan Owsley was employed by the Land Administration in Frankfort from 1845. He died there in October 1849.
