Elisha David Standiford (born December 28, 1831 in Louisville , Kentucky , †  July 26, 1887 there ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Elisha Standiford attended public schools in his home country and then St. Mary's College near Lebanon . After a subsequent medical degree and his license as a doctor, he began to practice in Louisville. But he did not practice this profession for long. Instead, he began working in agriculture and other industries. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He served in the Kentucky Senate in 1868 and 1871 .

In the congressional election of 1872 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Boyd Winchester on March 4, 1873 . Since he refused to run again in 1874, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1875 . After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Standiford served as President of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad between 1875 and 1879 . He also worked in the banking business. In addition, he was still involved in agriculture. Elisha Standiford died on July 26, 1887 in Louisville and was buried there.
