Noble Jones Gregory (born August 30, 1897 in Mayfield , Kentucky , †  September 26, 1971 there ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1959 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Noble Gregory was the younger brother of William Voris Gregory (1877-1936), who represented Kentucky in Congress between 1927 and 1936 . The younger Gregory attended both private and public schools. He then graduated from Mayfield High School in 1915 . He then finished his education at Mayfield Business College . Between 1917 and 1936, Gregory held various positions with the First National Bank of Mayfield . Between 1923 and 1936 he was also the treasurer of the city's school board.

Politically, Gregory was a member of the Democratic Party . In the run-up to the 1936 congressional election , his brother William was originally nominated for another term in Washington, DC . However, he died on October 10 of the same year, before the election. Noble Gregory was then nominated in place of his brother and was elected to the US House of Representatives in the Kentucky First Constituency . There he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1937. After ten re-elections, he was able to complete eleven consecutive terms in Congress by January 3, 1959. During his time in Congress, further New Deal laws were passed there until 1941 by the federal government under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . Since 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of the Second World War and its consequences. The beginning of the Cold War , the Korean War and, domestically, the civil rights movement also took place during his time as a member of parliament . During Gregory's tenure, the 22nd amendment to the Constitution was ratified in 1951 , the first definitive term for the presidential term.

1958 Noble Gregory was no longer nominated by his party for another term. In the following years he worked in banking and the investment industry. He died on September 26, 1971 in his native Mayfield.
