John D. White

John D. White (born February 14, 1802 in Cumberland Gap, Bell County , Kentucky , † September 22, 1845 in Richmond , Kentucky) was an American politician . He was a member of the United States Congress for several years and was Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1841 to 1843 .

Live and act

John White was born in Cumberland Cap, now Middlesboro . He only enjoyed a short schooling, but subsequently learned the profession of lawyer and received his license. He then moved to Richmond to work as a lawyer. He was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1832, and three years later he entered the 24th Congress of the Whigs on March 4, 1835, and was re-elected in the next four Congresses until he was elected on March 3 , 1835 . March 1845 left Congress. In the 27th Congress he was Speaker of the House of Representatives.

On February 8, 1845, he was appointed a judge in Kentucky, where he worked until his death, a few months later, on September 22, 1845. He is buried in the State Cemetery in Frankfort . He was the uncle of Congressman John D. White (1849–1920).
