Theodore Medad Pomeroy (born December 31, 1824 in Cayuga , New York , † March 23, 1905 in Auburn , New York) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of New York in the House of Representatives of the United States .

Life

He studied at the College Hamilton Jura . Pomeroy was a district attorney in Cayuga County from 1850 to 1856 . He then became a member of the New York House of Representatives in 1857 .

Pomeroy represented from March 4, 1861 to March 3, 1863, the 24th Congressional District of New York and from March 4, 1863 to March 4, 1869, the 25th Congressional District of New York in the House of Representatives. As Speaker of the House of Representatives , he headed this Chamber of Representatives for one day after the resignation of Schuyler Colfax from March 3, 1869 until noon the following day, when his last term of office expired. He was after his career in the House of Representatives from 1875 to 1876 mayor of Auburn and from 1878 to 1879 member of the New York Senate .

Pomeroy is buried in Fort Hill Cemetery in his hometown of Auburn.
