Lewis K. Rockefeller

Lewis Kirby Rockefeller (born November 25, 1875 in Schenectady , New York , † September 18, 1948 in Canaan , New York) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1943 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lewis Kirby Rockefeller attended public schools. In 1898 he graduated from New York State College in Albany . He was then a principal at the Grammar School in North Germantown . Between 1898 and 1904 he worked in the finance office of the New York State Department of Public Instruction . Then he was chief accountant in the community accounts office of the Office of the New York State Comptroller from 1905 to 1915 . In 1915 he became Deputy State Tax Commissioner - a post he held until 1921. He then served as the Deputy State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance between 1921 and 1933 . In 1933 he worked as an accountant and auditor. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . He attended the 1936 Republican National Convention in Cleveland as a delegate .

He was elected to the 75th Congress in a by-election in the 27th  constituency of New York to fill the vacancy created by the death of Philip A. Goodwin . He took his seat in the US House of Representatives on November 2, 1937. In the 1938 congressional elections , he was elected to the 76th Congress . He was re-elected once more. Since he on a run again in 1942 renounced, he left the after January 3, 1943 Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he worked as an auditor and tax advisor in Chatham . He died on September 18, 1948 in Canaan. His body was buried in the cemetery of the same name in Kinderhook .
