Theron Akin (born May 23, 1855 in Johnstown , New York , † March 26, 1933 in Amsterdam , New York) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1913 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Theron Akin was born in Fulton County about six years before the outbreak of the Civil War . He attended Amsterdam Community Schools and was homeschooled by a private tutor. Then he went to agricultural activities. He graduated from New York Dental College and then practiced in Amsterdam for 12 years. He then moved to Akin (later renamed Fort Johnson ), where he did some farming in Montgomery County . He was president of the Village of Fort Johnson.

In the 1910 congressional election for the 62nd Congress , he was elected as a Progressive Republican in the 25th  constituency of New York in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Cyrus Durey on March 4, 1911 . He suffered in his renewed candidacy in 1912 a defeat and then retired from the after March 3, 1913 Congress of.

After his time at the Congress he went back to agricultural activities. He ran unsuccessfully for the 64th Congress in 1914 . Between 1920 and 1923 he was mayor of Amsterdam. Then he went about his previous activities. Akin ran unsuccessfully for both the Republican and Democratic nominations for mayor in 1927 . He died in Amsterdam on March 26, 1933 and was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill .
