Graham H. Chapin

Graham Hurd Chapin (born February 10, 1799 in Salisbury , Connecticut , † September 8, 1843 in Mount Morris , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1835 and 1837 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Graham Hurd Chapin moved to Lyons , Wayne County in 1817 . At that point the British-American War had ended for about two years. In 1819 he graduated from Yale College . He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law in 1823, he began practicing in Lyons. Between 1826 and 1833 he was guardianship and probate judge in Wayne County. During that time, he served as Wayne County District Attorney in 1829 and 1830. In 1833 he moved to Rochester , where he continued to practice as a lawyer. Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction. In the 1834 congressional election for the 24th Congress , Chapin was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 25th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Samuel Clark on March 4, 1835 . Chapin was eliminated after the March 3, 1837 Congress of. He died on September 8, 1843 in Mount Morris, Livingston County .
