John H. Camp

John Henry Camp (born April 4, 1840 in Ithaca , New York , † October 12, 1892 in Lyons , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1877 and 1883 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Henry Camp was born in Tompkins County about six years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War . He attended community schools. In 1860 he graduated from Albany Law School . He began practicing in Lyons after receiving his bar license that same year. In 1863 he worked as a clerk at the Guardianship and Probate Court. Between 1867 and 1870 he was prosecuting attorney in Wayne County . Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1876 ​​congressional election for the 45th Congress , Camp in the 26th  constituency of New York was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Clinton D. MacDougall on March 4, 1877 . He was re-elected twice in a row. Since it to a re-election bid in 1882 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1883 Congress of.

After his time in Congress he went back to his work as a lawyer in Lyons, where he died on October 12, 1892. His body was buried in Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg .
