George C Wortley

George Cornelius Wortley (born December 8, 1926 in Syracuse , New York , † January 21, 2014 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1981 and 1989 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Cornelius Wortley attended St. Lucy's Academy in Syracuse. In 1944 he graduated from Tully Central School in Tully . Between 1945 and 1946 he attended Kings Point Academy . He was also a Cadet Midshipman in the Merchant Marine Reserve - United States Navy Reserve between 1945 and 1946 . He made his Bachelor of Science in 1948 at Syracuse University . Then he was president of a publishing house. In the following years he worked as a publisher and editor for Eagle Bulletin . He was a director of the Bank of New York (Central Region) and the Wortley Drug Store, Inc. In 1966 he held the post of President of the New York Press Association and between 1968 and 1973 of the National Editorial Foundation . He then sat on the National Commission on Historical Publications and Records between 1977 and 1980 . In 1979 he was director of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce . Politically, he belongs to the Republican Party .

In the 1980 congressional election for the 97th Congress , Wortley was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 32nd  electoral district of New York , where he succeeded James M. Hanley on January 4, 1981 . In 1982 he ran in the 27th constituency of New York for the 98th Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded Matthew F. McHugh on January 4, 1983 . He was re-elected twice in a row. Since he on a run again in 1988 renounced, he left the after January 3, 1989 Congress of.
