Dean P. Taylor

Dean Park Taylor (born January 1, 1902 in Troy , New York , †  October 16, 1977 in Albany , New York) was an American politician . Between 1943 and 1961 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dean Taylor attended public schools in his home country and then Colgate University in Hamilton . After a subsequent law degree at Union University in Schenectady and his admission to the bar in 1926, he began to work in Troy in this profession. Between 1927 and 1930 he was the assistant federal attorney for northern New York state. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1938 and 1952 he was their district chairman in Rensselaer County . In June 1940 he attended the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia as a delegate . Between 1953 and 1954 Taylor was Republican party chairman in his home state. He also served as the curator of Russell Sage College and a director of Union National Bank and Niagara Mohawk Power Co.

In the 1942 congressional election , Taylor was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 29th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded E. Harold Cluett on January 3, 1943 . After eight re-elections, he was able to complete nine legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1961 . In 1945 he moved to the 33rd electoral district, where he stayed until 1953. During his last eight years in Congress, he represented the 31st District of New York. His time in Congress saw the end of World War II , the beginning of the Cold War , the Korean War and, domestically, the civil rights movement . He was a member of various committees, including the Judiciary Committee and the Public Property Management Committee.

In 1960 Dean Taylor renounced another congressional candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Albany on October 16, 1977 and was buried in Troy, his birthplace.
