Daniel E. Button

Daniel Evan Button (born November 1, 1917 in Dunkirk , Chautauqua County , New York , †  March 7, 2009 in Albany , New York) was an American politician .

Button studied at the University of Delaware in Newark , received his Bachelor of Arts there in 1938 and then attended Columbia University in New York City , where he received his Master of Arts in 1939 . He then worked as an author and journalist. Among other things, he worked for newspapers in Wilmington , Delaware and the Associated Press from 1939 to 1947 . From 1952 to 1958 Button was Assistant to the President of the State University of New York . From 1960 to 1966 he then worked as an editor for the Albany Times Union .

In 1966 he resigned and ran for a seat in the United States Congress as a Republican . He was able to prevail against his Democratic opponent and was elected to the House of Representatives of the United States . There he represented the 29th constituency of the state of New York from January 3, 1967 to January 3, 1971  . After his election defeat in the 1970 congressional election, Button worked again as an editor, this time for Science Digest magazine . He also wrote a biography of former Albany Mayor Thomas M. Whalen III, and Take City Hall, a book on Albany urban politics.

Daniel Button was married with five children. He died on March 7, 2009 at the age of 91 years of pneumonia in Albany Medical Center Hospital .
