Azariah Boody
Azariah Boody (born April 21, 1815 in Québec , Lower Canada , † November 18, 1885 in New York City ) was an American politician . In 1853 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
In his youth, Azariah Boody came to Lowell , Massachusetts with his parents , where he attended public schools. In 1850 he moved to Rochester, New York State, where he worked in agriculture. Between 1853 and 1865 he was a curator at the University of Rochester . Politically, he became a member of the Whig Party .
In the congressional election of 1852 Boody was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 29th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Jerediah Horsford on March 4, 1853 . He was able to exercise his mandate until his resignation in October 1853. Boody had lived in New York City since 1855. In the following years he entered the railway industry and became president and board member of various railway companies. He was also active in canal and bridge construction. In 1875 he retired from business life. He died in New York on November 18, 1885.
