Elizur K. Hart

Elizur Kirke Hart (born April 8, 1841 in Albion , Orleans County , New York , †  February 18, 1893 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1879 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Elizur Hart graduated from the Albion Academy and then worked in the banking industry. He later became a director of Niagara Falls International Bridge Co. At the same time, he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1872 he was a member of the New York State Assembly .

In the congressional elections of 1876 Hart was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 30th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Republican John M. Davy on March 4, 1877 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1878, he could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1879 .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Hart resumed his previous activities. In 1882 he founded the Rochester Post-Express , of which he became president. He was also President of Orleans County National Bank between 1890 and 1893 . He died on February 18, 1893 in Albion, where he was also buried.
