John J. LaFalce
John Joseph LaFalce (born October 6, 1939 in Buffalo , New York ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . Between 1975 and 2003 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
In 1957, John LaFalce graduated from Canisius High School in Buffalo. He then attended Canisius College there until 1961 . After a subsequent law degree at Villanova Law School in Philadelphia and his admission to the bar in 1964, he began to work in this profession. Between 1965 and 1967 he served in the US Army .
He then embarked on a political career. In 1971 and 1972 he was a member of the New York Senate ; from 1973 to 1974 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . In the 1974 election , LaFalce was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 36th Congressional constituency of New York , where he succeeded Henry P. Smith on January 3, 1975 . Always re-elected, he was part of the Congress for 14 legislative terms until January 3, 2003. LaFalce's constituency in the western upstate of New York changed the ordinal number several times through redistricting. From 1983 he represented the 32nd, from 1993 the 29th congressional electoral district of his state. Between 1987 and 1995, LaFalce chaired the Committee on Small Business . He was also part of the finance committee . For the 2002 election , John LaFalce renounced another candidacy and resigned from Congress on January 3, 2003.
He later served on the National Advisory Board of the Democrats for Life of America .
