John Cornelius Butler
John Cornelius Butler (born July 2, 1887 in Buffalo , New York , † August 13, 1953 ) was an American politician . Between 1941 and 1949 and again from 1951 to 1953 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Butler attended his home public schools and Old Central High School in Buffalo. He then joined the trade union movement, where he held various local offices. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . After the death of MP Pius L. Schwert , he was elected as its successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when the by-election was due for the 42nd seat in New York , where he took up his new mandate on April 22, 1941. After three re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1949 . Since 1945 he represented the then newly established 44th constituency of his state. His first time as a congressman was marked by the events of World War II and its aftermath, as well as by the beginning of the Cold War .
In 1948 Butler lost to Democrat Chester C. Gorski . After the temporary end of his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked as a sales manager for Fire Equipment Sales Co. and as an appraiser for Beacon Electrical Engineering and Construction Co. in Buffalo. In the elections of 1950 Butler was again elected to Congress in the 44th District of New York, where he replaced Chester Gorski on January 3, 1951. Since he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party in 1952, he was only able to complete one further legislative period there until January 3, 1953, which was determined by the events of the Korean War .
John Butler died on August 13, 1953 in Buffalo, where he was also buried.
