Clarence MacGregor
Clarence MacGregor (* 16th September 1872 in Newark , Wayne County , New York ; † 18th February 1952 in Buffalo , New York) was an American lawyer , politician of the Republican Party and longstanding member of the United States House of Representatives for the state New York.
Life
After attending public schools in Gloversville, Auburn and Buffalo and graduating from Hartwick Seminary in Otsego County , he attended a special course at the University of Rochester between 1893 and 1895 . After being admitted to the bar, he settled as a lawyer in Buffalo in 1897 .
In addition, he began his political career in 1908 with the election to the New York State Assembly , of which he was a member until 1912. On March 4, 1919, he became a member of the US House of Representatives for the first time as a Republican candidate and was a member of the House of Representatives after four re-elections until his resignation on December 31, 1928. During this time he was between 1923 and 1938 Chairman of the US Committee on Accounts .
He then became a judge at the Supreme Court of the State of New York , and served there for fourteen years until his resignation on December 31, 1942. He then worked from January 7, 1943 until his death as a publicly appointed arbitrator by the New York Supreme Court.
