Edward B. Vreeland (1908)

Edward Butterfield Vreeland (born December 7, 1856 in Cuba , Allegany County , New York , †  May 8, 1936 in Salamanca , New York) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1913 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Vreeland attended the Friendship Academy until 1877 . He had been living in Salamanca since 1869, where he was a school councilor and supervised the public schools between 1877 and 1882. After studying law and his admission as a lawyer in 1881, he could have practiced in this profession. But he renounced the practice of a legal profession. Instead, he worked in banking, oil, and insurance. In 1891 he became president of the Salamanca Trust Co. From 1889 to 1893 Vreeland was a postman in Salamanca. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

After the resignation of MP Warren B. Hooker , Vreeland was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for election to the 34th seat in New York , where he took up his new mandate on November 7, 1899. After six re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1913 . Between 1909 and 1911 he was chairman of the Committee on Banking and Currency . From 1909 to 1912 he was Vice President of the National Monetary Commission . Since 1903 Vreeland represented the then newly established 37th district of his state in Congress.

In 1912 he renounced another congressional candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he resumed his previous activities in Salamanca. On January 1, 1936, he retired. Edward Vreeland died on May 8, 1936 in Salamanca, where he was also buried.
