Wallace Edgar Pierce (born December 9, 1881 in Clinton County , New York , †  January 3, 1940 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . In 1939 and 1940 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Wallace Pierce attended public schools in his home country. In 1903 he graduated from Plattsburgh State Normal School . In the following years he taught himself as a teacher in Clinton County and in Ogdensburg . Between 1909 and 1912 he was on the staff of Congressman George R. Malby . He then worked for the MP Edwin Albert Merritt until 1914 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1913, he began practicing this profession in Plattsburgh . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Pierce was a member of the New York State Assembly between 1916 and 1920 . From 1926 to 1940 he was District Chairman of the Republicans in Clinton County; between 1934 and 1940 he was also a member of the state executive committee of his party.

In the 1938 congressional elections , Pierce was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 31st  constituency of New York, where he succeeded Bertrand Snell on January 3, 1939 . He was able to exercise this mandate for exactly one year until his death on January 3, 1940. During this time, more New Deal laws were passed by the Roosevelt government. Wallace Pierce was buried in Plattsburgh. His mandate fell to Clarence E. Kilburn after a special election .
